    Dear Lauri, Lauren & Danielle,

God works in mysterious ways. It is hard to understand why he chose to ask Curtis to join him at such an early age. We will remember Curtis as a generous and caring man whose commitment to making a difference will be forever evidenced by his many good friends and by his many good works. We will choose to believe that God was short-handed on a very important project and needed a strong and capable pair of hands to help. We had the privilege of working with Curtis in many ways, and we will miss his laughter and always cheerful disposition. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know if we can help out in any way.

    To the Heflin Family,
Curtis was a wonderful man. He was my boss while I worked at W 16th Street of National City. He believed in us and gave us a shot at making our branch a success. He was fair, honest and only a phone call away. He was the boss that I think of as being the best. He wanted us to enjoy our job and be successful. He was the very best. Thank you for allowing me to know him for a short while.

    Dear Mrs. Heflin and Family,

I am a rep from the Porter Paint Co., 952 N. Delaware St. We all knew Curtis well at the store and are shocked at his passing. I had many occasions to visit him on his homesites as well and couldn’t have been more impressed with his class and demeanor.
Such a terrible loss will be felt for many years to come. He was truly a gentleman and I’m sure he was a great father and husband.
My sincere condolences on behalf of myself and everyone here at Porter Paints.

    Sincerely,
    Greg Bond

    Lauri,
My heart is heavy for you and your girls. It is such a difficult time for you and your family. Please know that many people who worked with Curtis enjoyed that opportunity and know that he will be missed. I lost my own father suddently at a similar age as your girls and know how difficult this is for your children. Keep his memory alive for them as it provides the greatest sense of security to them. Sometimes it may be easier to not talk so you can manage your emotions and during those times encourage others to do it for you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Although I don’t know you personally, Curtis spoke of you often.

    Laurie, Lauren & Danielle

I have not worked with Curtis for some time but did very much enjoy the nine or ten years we spent together restructuring IBDC. We recently re-connected and planned to see how we could work together again.
Our loving God has reasons for all things in our lives, even something as difficult to bear as Curtis’ passing. As your pain eases you will come to better understand that Curtis still loves you as you love him. He will always be with those he loves and with those who love him. Curtis is still a good person and father. Of one thing I am absolutely sure, Curtis loves his family, still. He spoke of you lovingly and often. I too, will miss him dearly and think of him often.
